During extraordinary times that none of us ever thought we’d experience in our lifetime; we have seen not only a major shift in our everyday life, but in the way that we run our business and interact with our clients. Our full team is now working remotely, and our Advisors have been conducting numerous governance professional development training courses and Board review workshops to our clients via Zoom.
What has our Team been up to this week?
After mastering the art of ‘zooming’, we were able to communicate better with our clients in particular it is now much easier for us to present data and our written reports at virtual Board meetings. Our team has attended three Board meetings remotely to present key agenda items. The first meeting was to discuss a strategy implementation plan which was going to the Board for approval. The second was to present a Board and governance restructure plan to a Board that is proactively adjusting its structure to better fit the needs of the organisation. The third meeting was to discuss a proposal we had put forward. In the past these short attendances would not have been possible, but with more organisations embracing technology, we can more easily give face-to-face advice and explanations on key matters.
The Effective Governance team and our partner HopgoodGanim Lawyers have been working collaboratively in providing governance and legal advice to a national charity in Australia. That advice has focused on establishing a leading practice governance framework, a skills-based Board, enhanced governance documentation, developing a robust risk environment and embedding defensible decision-making practices into the national body in order to provide world-class service and research.
Our Managing Director and one of our Senior Advisors have been assisting a client to conduct a skills review of their Board. This skills review will take into account the changed competencies needed on the Board to support and monitor the successful implementation of the organisation’s new strategic plan.
We are also currently conducting a Board review for an APRA-regulated entity involving an online questionnaire and individual director and senior management interviews using digital technology in accordance with the current restrictions. The review also features a comprehensive governance documentation review. The outcomes off the review will be delivered in a report and presented to directors via Zoom at the conclusion of the project, so the Board can discuss any report recommendations and plan next steps based on the agreements reached at the meeting.
We want to thank our team and clients for the flexibility shown as we go through this transition to virtual workplaces.
